RPGD is the sole institution responsible for shouldering and
formulating the federal rangeland policies, strategies and plans.
In the Sudan livestock are raised mainly by pastoral and agro-pastoral groups,
with the former dependent on livestock and the latter on both livestock and cultivation.
Sudan is endowed with a wide range of ecosystems and species diversity.
The ecological zones extend over a wide range from the desert in the extreme north to the savannah.

In-situ conservation of endangered valuable range plants species through establishment of
enclosures and allow for natural successionand at the same time seeds can be collected to
restock disappeared species to their natural habitat through reseeding.
Ex-situ conservation:Through collection of seedsofimportant natural forage plant species
from wild stands wherenational seed collection campaigns are carried annually to reseed
deteriorated rangelands, and establishment of forage plants nurseries that can also help
in plant adaptation.
Documentation : The only form is the RPGD national herbarium which contains 400 range
plant species dating back to the year1948,and needs to be renewed (there is process of
digitizing all information.
